Contact: The Magic of Communication is an interactive, curriculum based assembly program which explores the human need to communicate, and the means and technologies used.
Featuring juggling, mime, and the performance of an ancient Aboriginal instrument, the opening routines are a whirlwind of movement,
color, and music. Topics explored: How is music used to convey emotions and tell stories? How can you communicate without speaking?
Later in the program a live, mock television commercial helps students see through the verbal techniques used by advertisers to make you
remember, and buy, their products. Next, a volunteer from the audience performs an astonishing feat of magic while receiving
instructions entirely in Spanish.
In the final routines Scott uses spectacular illusions to illustrate how innovations in technology, from the printing press to the
radio, have allowed mankind to communicate over vast distances in space and time.
This program reinforces your state's Curriculum Frameworks, and will help your students to develop an appreciation of, and a critical attitude towards, varied forms of communication.
